“We live in a rapidly growing region: ‘a region of villages” .The typical village in the Northern Rivers has the potential to be sustainable (environmentally, socially and economically) and is being explored by regional departments as a possible future model of development. Landscape architect Sheryn Da-Re provides an overview of her research on villages (which uses Bangalow as a model) and explores some of the features of villages that contribute to their distinctive character. Ray Darney will join this discussion to present a council perspective.

The discussion focuses on ‘Threaded Connections’, commissioned by Lismore Regional Gallery as an explorative project to articulate a sense of community identity, history and belonging. Designed by contemporary textile artist, Lucille Martin, it was created in collaboration with over 40 members of the Lismore and District Embroiderer’s Group over two years. The work weaves together past and present stories of everyday life in Lismore and surrounds, the geographic and social history of the district, and the role of women in building this history. http://www.lismoregallery.org/
