Theme: Video Art Making in Action
Date: Sat 23 & Sun 24 May 10.00 – 4.00pm
Presented by: Chris Knowles
Venue: School of Audio Engineering (SAE) Ewingsdale Road, Byron Bay
This workshop is for artists who wish to use video as a medium within their art practice. Also suitable for Visual Arts Teachers. It will examine formal, theoretical, technical and practical aspects of creation and exhibition of video art in it's diversity of forms, ranging from screen based works through to large scale public art
Participants will gain hands-on experience and basic practical skills in image gathering and video camera operation, sound recording, editing, screen design and effects, and output for exhibition - a multi-screen video/audio installation will be created within the workshop.
Technologies will be explained and demystified, and works by contemporary video artists will used to illustrate techniques, methods and ideas.
Participants are to bring:
a digital video camera
camera accessories including: power charger and batteries; cables for connecting camera to computer (firewire, USB); for connecting camera to projector or TV (audio/video)
camera instruction manual, if available
camera recording media (tape, card or disk, depending on camera)
a blank DVD
tripod, if available
remember to also bring your own lunch

Chris Knowles is a video/audio artist, academic and teacher who has created large scale and permanent works for public spaces and events in Australia & exhibited internationally.

Theme: Aboriginal Cultural and Collaborative Workshop
Date: Wed 27 May 10.00 – 5.00pm
Presented by: Anthony Walker
Aboriginal artist, Anthony Walker explains traditions, techniques and symbols in Aboriginal art. He reflects on his experiences of painting with his grandparents and the stories that have informed generations of Aboriginal artwork. Anthony brings these stories and traditions into a contemporary context and demonstrates how to illustrate them. In this workshop Anthony will work with the group to create a collaborative artwork on canvas, this work will be donated to The Buttery. Participants will be painting and need to bring their own brushes.
Background: Artist Anthony Walker is the winner of 2008 FEHVA Incentive Award and the Gold Coast Aboriginal Award.
Participants are to bring:
paint brushes
water container
towel or rags
painting clothes
Tea & Coffee available

Presented by: The Industrialists: Michael Cusack, Meredith Crowe, James Guppy, Ivana Perkins, Robert Perkins, Robyn Sweaney, Emma Walker, Christine Willcocks.
A workshop with a group of 8 of the regions elite artists. They share their formula for working together to support, inspire, converse and collage. They demonstrate the benefits of having fun in a supportive environment and how it informs the creative process.
