In concert with Yeshe

"Yeshe has a voice that is gravelly and soothing at the same time. You can feel the tenderness and a spiritual flow of good will within these songs. Rhythms and harmony abound and the listener vanishes within the whirl they create. Instruments you may not even be able to pronounce, fill your ears........

The tantalising sounds of the mbira, played by Yeshe, show the richness of what looks like a seemingly simple instrument. The mbira, for the uninitiated, consists of 22 to 28 metal keys mounted on a hardwood soundboard and is usually placed inside a large gourd resonator or deze. The keys are played with the two thumbs plucking down and the right forefinger plucking up.
An instrument that is seemingly crude in construction has been played for over a thousand years by the Shona people in Africa. Yeshe has combined the sounds of this somewhat ancient instrument with the resonance of western and marimba music to produce a melodic and joyous blend of old and new. ....

Yeshe originates from Germany, but his sensibilities to composition and performance, are truly ensconced in world music and the beauty found there. Based on his biographic detail, he has traveled the world and immersed himself in the cultures and the music that have impacted on his art as a percussionist. Discovering and being drawn to the mbira has had a profound impact upon his art for the last decade."
