Workshop program will include discussion of the practical requirements for the teaching and practice of video art, together with hands-on experience.
Participants will gain practical knowledge of basic video camera operation, editing and presentation. illustrate a range of teaching, learning and production strategies, participants will create a 4D artwork in form of an interactive multi-screen video installation. The work will be exhibited after the workshop.
Workshop participants will not require any previous experience.
Participants to bring:
a digital video camera
camera accessories including: power charger and batteries; cables for connecting camera to computer (firewire, USB); for connecting camera to projector or TV (audio/video)
camera instruction manual, if available
camera recording media (tape, card or disk, depending on camera)
a blank DVD
tripod, if available
remember to also bring your own luncha digital video camera ready to use with accessories
Background:
Chris Knowles is a video/audio artist, academic and teacher who has created large scale and permanent works for public spaces and events around Australia and exhibited internationally.

Contemporary Video Art Practice: Incorporating 4D /Moving / Time-based forms in Visual Arts Teaching and Learning Programs
Presenters - Wendy Ramsay and Dr Craig Judd
Workshop reviews the moving image in 7-12 Visual Arts teaching and learning programs, focusing on MOVE Video Art in Schools resource as a departure point for investigating contemporary video art practice and video artists, learning activities and engaging with audiences and ideas.
Background:
Wendy Ramsay is the Visual Arts Advisor, Creative Arts Unit, Curriculum K-12 Directorate NSW Department Education and Training. She is a visual arts educator and provides curriculum advice and develops online print resources to support visual arts teachers and students in government schools. Wendy conducts professional development workshop programs for K-12 teachers in metropolitan and regional areas throughout NSW and presents at HSC study days, state, interstate and national conferences and symposia consults with a range of art agencies to deliver educational programs.
Dr Craig Judd is a curator, arts writer and educator who has worked in state and regional galleries through
Australia. He has been an educator and public programs manager for Biennale of Sydney and has
lectured extensively on contemporary practice and historical art both nationally and internationally.
